The Center for American Women and Politics reported that only 23% of the United States Congress is comprised of women. In Missouri, the state legislature is also 23% women. Yet 50% of the Missouri population (and 50% of the U.S. population) is made up of women. We need equal representation in government. In fact, women legislators pass, on average, twice as much legislation as male legislators. It's clear that we need more women in politics. Which means we need MO women in politics. We need Missouri M.A.D.E.
After I decided to found a women's empowerment organization in Missouri in June 2018, I began devising plans immediately. I knew I wanted the organization to be "Missouri M.A.D.E.," but I wasn't sure which words to use for the M.A.D.E. acronym. After operating with the name "Molding A Diverse Electorate" for a year, our executive team conducted public research and then renamed the organization "Mobilizing And Diversifying Elections." This acronym perfectly describes the mission and vision of this organization. Mobilizing and diversifying elections up and down the ballot is in the best interest of us all.
It’s been over a year and a half since Missouri M.A.D.E.’s beginning and I've had the honor and privilege to connect with Missouri women from all over the state on behalf of the organization. Our team is already officially recognized as a Missouri non-profit and is currently pursuing federal 501(c)(3) non-profit status in order to secure the organization's status as a non-partisan entity focused solely on the promotion of all Missouri women in public spaces. Thank you for joining us in this journey. I hope you'll sign up for our newsletter, follow us on social media, donate to our cause and stay tuned for exciting updates. Feel free to explore our website to learn more about our organization. This will be a movement, because we need more women in elected office. Together we can ensure an inclusive future.
When women run for office and win, we all win. Let's mobilize and diversify elections together.
